SIB’s first permanent Vocational Training Centre
The swirling autumn breezes of August ushered in an extraordinary month of Independence forSIB. International Women’s Day Celebration
On March 16, Rangasthala at M G Road came alive for the evening. President Mamta Ghosh opened the evening with a talk on the inspiring roles of women. Warm sisterhood and solidarity was celebrated. Eye Camp on Human Rights Day
The sunny-cool breezes of December 10, Human Rights Day, wafted SIB members to a Kanakapura village trip. Sudha Manandi organised an eye check-up camp in association with B W Lions Eye Hospital. A great day with 90 kids and seniors
Sudha Manandi writes: I loved visiting a Kanakpura village near the city to organise an Eye Camp with children from four village schools. It was such fun watching 90 children and senior citizens too. Various women-related topics were discussed. We spoke to them on various things the government has in place, such as favourable work conditions, adequate standards of living, physical and mental wellness and raising their voice against violence. Kerala flood relief supplies
August was a cruel month for Kerala, as floods devastated the pretty sliver of a state. SIB reached out to help the flood-ravaged state with food, blankets, clothes, tents and relief material.


World Food Day
On October 16, World Food Day, SIB contributed four meals a day for a week to Anatha Shishu Nivasa, an orphanage that houses children and teenagers upto the age of 18. The package included fruits and even infant food. SIB members Menaka, Sudha Jalan, Sudha Manandi, Anita, Dr Prathibha and Sharmila spent quality time with the children, enjoying the interaction and give-and-take. Menaka Venugopal taught them to dance with her and shake their bodies as well as minds.


Charter Celebrations @ Si Bangalore
On November 17, SIB spread its wings when member Rema Ramchandran, NASI’s Extension Officer, opened a new chapter in Hyderabad. So far, their projects include collection and distribution of newspapers, notebooks, toys, clothes and vessels; sponsoring underprivileged students and conducting workshops for children. It was a proud day for SIB, as we opened multiple chapters for social service in a new city.


Matsyakanya – Dance Drama.
With lights on her face and springs on her feet, one little mermaid danced her way into a thousand hearts on July 29th, at Chowdiah Hall. The entire hall was electrified by the little fairy, who played the part of ‘Matsakanya’. This was a dance drama with a huge cast. It was a spectacular show, hosted by SIB and presented by the globally acclaimed dancer, Dr. Sanjay Shantaram and The Shivapriya Ensemble. Distributing Biodegradable Sanitary Napkins
Biodegradable Sanitary Napkins are the centre of new and exciting projects. On August 3, SIB distributed 3,000 sanitary napkins to 60 girls at Parikrama School. On June 29, SIB gave sanitary napkins to inmates of four homes – Abalashram, Abhayashram, Mahila Dakshita Samithi and Ujjwala. Cancer Detection Camp
This year’s International Women’s Day on March 8 was quite purposeful, as SI held a Cancer Detection Camp for their sisters at the Primary Health Centre of Kanakapura taluk, Venkatarayanadoddi, just out of the city’s limits. SIB team, with two other doctors and lab technicians, conducted pap smear tests to detect Cancer of the Cervix in a 100 women, aged between 25 to 40, from nearby villages.
