Marking the global campaign from November 25 to December 10 — beginning with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women — Soroptimist International Bangalore (SIB) commenced its 2025 observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence with a city-wide awareness walkathon.

Led by President Sudha Manandi and her team, the initiative reaffirmed SIB’s commitment to advocacy, outreach, and community-driven efforts to combat violence against women and girls. The event drew over 200 participants, including Rotaract members from city colleges, residents of Vasavi Sharda Girls’ Hostel, and citizens from across age groups.
The one-kilometre walk from Ashok Pillar to Lalbagh West Gate transformed into a moving message of solidarity. Participants displayed placards at major traffic signals, spreading awareness on women’s safety to commuters across vehicles and to fellow pedestrians. The effort was supported by the Bengaluru Traffic Police.

A key highlight of the event was the Slogan Writing Contest. Faiza from Mount Carmel College was recognised for her impactful message, “Shakti resides in me, shame on you destroys me.” Vaishnavi from Jayanagar was also awarded for her slogan, “Don’t let them block your freedom. Every woman deserves to feel SAFE.”

The event was widely appreciated for its organization and community participation, with special acknowledgment extended to Mr. Sathish Manandi. The campaign forms part of the global efforts led by Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland (SIGBI), reinforcing a shared commitment to advancing women’s rights and safety.
